Do comic book movies create demand for comic books?

When has a movie caused the price of a comic to actually increase in price long-term?

There's a certain belief in the comic book collecting community that when a movie comes out based on a comic book character, comics related to the character will jump in price on the secondary market.

When has a movie actually caused the price of a comic to increase in price long-term? I feel like any price increases are temporary, and not caused by true demand. Sellers think the prices should go up if a movie is popular, so they raise the price prematurely to meet this future non-demand. Then when that demand never materializes, the prices go down to what they were before.

I think this idea is based on the flawed theory that when normies, people who don't read comics, enjoy a popular comic movie, they will go to a comic shop and buy comics related to the character they enjoyed in the movie.

I don't think normies ever did that. I don't think normies ever will do that.

I think if a non-comic book reading normie enjoys a comic book related movie, they might buy a popcorn bucket or a Blu-ray copy of the movie. I don't think they'll go to their local comic book store, buy a long box, some bags and boards, and begin collecting comic books.

Investing in comic books is dumb

I don't think investing in comic books is a good idea. If you want to invest your money, put it into an S&P 500 index fund. Investing in comic books is almost as dumb as investing in Pokémon cards. Collecting comic books or Pokémon cards is a hobby, not something to plan your financial future with.
